The symbolism unites harmonies of geometric symmetry with destructive sexuality. And, though coloured with the perverse context of the first universe, Enitharmon authentically recognizes the holiness of life. Limited to a finite, though authentic perception of this holiness of life, Enitharmon is stimulated to selfish ecstasy by the harmonies she herself engenders:

"I wake sweet joy in dens of sorrow & I plant a

"In forests of affliction,

"And wake the bubbling springs of life in regions of dark death.

Music is associated with Enitharmon throughout the cycle of The Four Zoas. This association is of particular importance in the "dens of sorrow," the "forests of affliction," and the "regions of dark death." The harmonies expressed by Enitharmon's song are those derived from the intricate organization of the totality of life in the time/space continuum of Ulro. Her harmonies stimulate "sweet joy in dens of sorrow" and "bubbling springs of life in regions of dark death" because of her authentic recognition of the holiness of life.
