24 "All Love is lost" and the emotion of hatred succeeds. The moral dictates of "Right and Duty" replace the state of "Liberty." In the pre-lapsarian state, love is a universal emotion and it depends upon liberty. When love is replaced by terror, hatred is a natural consequence. When liberty is lost, forms of moral control must follow. Thus, the "lovliest" son of heaven" is now "Terrible." Enion sees her own fate in the realm of generation as one that will lead to her becoming a "shadow in Oblivion." This image anticipates her role in The Four Zoas until the double apocalypse restores unity and regeneration. The final concept in her choric response expresses her desire for deeper introversion. In the fallen inversion of Eden, Enion desires to be hidden in shadows and in secrecy in the "mazes" of the "delusive beauty" of finitude. Tharmas complements her fallen desires. In an inversion of the "prophetic" (K. I. 18) earth of Eden he is "secret whisp'ring", in her ear. Tharmas is now, so to speak, the "labyrinth" for his separated Emanation, who must analyze his being to discover the energies which complement her own. Once the impulse of Tharmas becomes a "labyrinth" of secrecy, it is sufficiently available for dissection under the microscope of the moral order asserted by Enion. Since Enion shapes the impulse and in turn is dependent upon that impulse, she must act to translate it into form. Since all that is available to her is a labyrinth of secrecy lying in darkness and delusion, Tharmas must be 'unraveled' by her for his impulse to be given form. The second speech of Tharmas describes his view of Enion's compulsion to examine the inner dimensions of his finite being: "Why wilt thou Examine every little fibre of my soul, "Spreading them out before the sun like stalks of flax to dry?
